Social practice, as a cherished tradition of Tsinghua University, has always served as a vital vehicle for student growth. In recent years, the Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences (IIIS) has responded to the call of the era by embracing diverse thematic practices, continuously expanding their connotations, innovating formats, and enhancing their impact. The institute has deeply integrated social practice with ideological guidance, scientific innovation, collective cohesion, volunteer service, and industry exploration, effectively guiding students to "receive education, develop skills, and make contributions" through experiential learning. This approach nurtures deep patriotism and cultivates a profound sense of social responsibility among students.
In 2024, aligning with the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and actively responding to the national call for "revitalizing research through field investigations," IIIS organized 156 students to form five summer social practice teams. These teams traversed across China's vast landscapes—from Sichuan, Xinjiang, Shanghai, Wuxi, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong—and even extended their reach to Singapore. Notably, the establishment of IIIS's first overseas team marked a new milestone in internationalizing its social practice initiatives. Among these efforts, the "Chuan Shang Feng Yun" team and the "Hu Shang Xi Cha" team were honored with the Tsinghua University Gold Award and Silver Award for Student Social Practice, respectively, brilliantly showcasing the practical excellence of IIIS scholars.
